Communication has progressed leaps and bounds with the invention of mobile phones. Today we have the best means of communicating with anyone in any corner of the world, by pressing a single button of our mobile phone. Mobile phones have become more sophisticated and advanced communication has become much easier. You can hold the whole world at your finger tips, if you have a mobile phone.

From Internet browsing to sending and receiving e-mails and calls, today’s phones are capable of doing multifarious activities within seconds. Now phones have become an indispensable part of our lives. With the passage of time, phones with latest technologies began to crowd the market. Again it is seen that the players of the mobile phone market are constantly involved in fierce competition. So, in order to ensure their sustainability, the phone manufacturers are manufacturing new and innovative gadgets. Everyday, you would find new gadgets entering the market. If you take note of the last few months of the current year you will find some of the amazing gadgets that have redefined the whole concept of mobile telephony. Most of the manufacturers have come up with one or the other gadgets with latest technologies incorporated in it. To mention a few, look at the Apple iPhone, the Nokia N95 8GB or the Nokia 6300. These special phones of 2007 are gifted with the latest connectivity options and superlative capabilities. Apple iPhone, the most talked gadget is a marvelous phone with brilliant multimedia functions. It is a music player, a Internet browser, a camera (although the camera sucks imho) and what not. As a PDA too, the iphone is unparalleled.

Samsung, the reputed slider phone manufacturer is also not far behind. The latest Samsung U600 and the Samsung G600 launched in 2007 are sexy as well as stylish. Along with all possible features, the brilliant outlook of these phones makes them epitomes of pure beauty.

So, is the new kid of Nokia, Nokia N95 8GB. With a massive storage capacity, the phone can store enough of the multimedia files which a user can hear while on the move. As a communication device too, Nokia N95 8GB has surpassed almost all its contemporaries.

This year a large collection of mobile phones are released. All the latest phones are powered with advanced technologies. But, if we talk of the special phones of 2007, Apple iPhone, Samsung U600, Nokia N95 8GB are some of the phones that stand tall among the crowd.

Some developers are gaining early access to Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch software developer kit, according to reliable sources speaking to Electronista. A handful of companies are said to be getting rough versions of the tools to help code more advanced applications than would be possible with the current web-only solution. Exact details of what the kit allows are unknown, though it is confirmed that it produces native programs and somewhat resembles Google’s OpenSocial in that it mediates between the programmer and the iPhone operating system.

Although treated as a welcome development, the SDK will not be the same as writing a Mac OS X application and has its clear limits, people familiar with the matter say. These details are unavailable, though the features are broad enough that at least one major social networking site is reportedly interested what the native platform can offer versus existing web code. The group of companies has only received its development tools within the past two weeks and is allegedly unable to provide a timetable for when finished software will be ready, though it should be well ahead of the community at large, which only receives the SDK in February.
The slip corroborates remarks made by Apple chief Steve Jobs in his open letter announcing the SDK, which emphasized the need for a unique solution to third-party software that balances features with a layer of protection against privacy invasion and security breaches.

An astonishing number of people own and use a cell phone, with current figures totaling over 800 million worldwide. It has has become an important part of daily life, and improves business and travel opportunities, whilst providing the best possible level of communication across the globe.
However, the high numbers of users are also subject to changing trends for a number of reasons including improved features, fashion and accessories. This means that upgrades are a regular occurrence, with each device being used for an estimated 12 to 18 months. This means that there is a lot of cell phone waste.

Many users are not aware of the potential damage to the environment that incorrect disposal of cell phones can cause. Incorrect disposal means throwing any cell phone away, which is the typical fate assigned to an unwanted device. However, components within it can have a terrible impact on the environment and so need special disposal. All cell phones contain persistent metals which do not degrade in the environment. They also contain bioaccumulative metals which become toxic over period of time.
For instance, cadmium which is present in a cell phone is significant enough to cause damage in small doses. It is the seventh most harmful known chemical, and is capable of causing cancer. Cell phones also contain lead which causes liver damage in adults and neurological development problems in children when entered into the bloodstream. Other hazardous substances such as nickel and mercury provide further cause for concern.
If not disposed of properly, the metals from the cell phone can leak into the environment through corrosion and cause a series of problems in the environment. If thrown away, it will go to a landfill where it will remain. As many elements do not decompose, the level of harmful toxins increases and so does the potential damage. Lithium can burn with water exposure, and so can potentially begin underground fires when present in large quantities. Any of the hazardous or poisonous substances could contaminate local water supplies or the nearby soil. If either of these is affected than the toxins enter the food chain with terrible results.
In effect, incorrect disposal of the cell phone can create a form of poisoning. The immediate effects include health problems such as genetic or reproductive defects and detrimental effects upon the nervous system and delayed general development. The long term effect is global pollution. When waste that can not be broken down properly such as that in a cell phone is decomposing it creates methane gas. Methane gas is more damaging than CO2 and so has major impact on global warming. Not many people realize that all this can be caused by disposing it in an incorrect manner.
The best way to combat cell phone damage to the environment is to recycle it by returning it to a shop. This includes the accessories also. Some shops will ensure the product is sent to developing countries for reuse. Others will reclaim the metal parts to prevent them going into a landfill. Some cell phone companies even make a charity donation for every recycled device to encourage the practice. The other possibility is that they will ensure the product is sent for proper disposal. This includes disposal of hazardous materials.
Whichever option is used, the positive side effect is that less hazardous waste goes into the environment. Now that you know the facts, make sure that you dispose of your cell phone properly and remain environmentally sound with this one simple gesture.

Sony Computer Entertainment co-chief operating officer Jim Ryan apparently, told the India Times that the “PlayStation is a proven success and so is Sony Ericsson,” and that “convergence with the two arms working together is definitely plausible.” Granted, he did note that it could be quite some time before such a device would see the market, and that if indeed it did, it would likely resemble a handheld gaming system with a phone blended in and not vice-versa. So yeah, we’re not really any closer to knowing whether this thing truly is somewhere in the pipeline, but here’s to hoping that we don’t have to wait another year or so to find out more.

Industry experts are predicting that sales of the iphone are probably not going to live up to apples expectations. Figures suggest if apple sell a quarter of a million units by christmas they will be doing well. The reasons for this are as follows.

The cheapest deal you can get is a 18 month contract costing you £899.00

The iPhone costs £70 more in the UK than it does in the US

The iPhone is unable to access 3g services

In some parts of the UK the only option for internet access is the fallback to GPRS

Lets not even mention the camera

Insanely awesome iPhone hacker and developer “Core” just finished implementing AFP for the iPhone and iPod touch. This software connects your iPhone (or touch) to your computer using AFP, the AppleTalk Filing Protocol. Your iPhone shows up on your desktop as a disk with full read/write access.

The AFP server is brand new, so it is not yet available in Installer.app. To install by hand, use sftp to copy the tar file into /opt/iphone. Extract the archive on your iPhone or touch–the tar archive program is part of the BSD program; use tar xvf name-of-archive.tar–and run /opt/iphone/afp/startserver.sh &. The ampersand lets the program run in the background. (You will need to restart it after reboots.)

Once installed and running, go to Finder. Choose Go > Connect To Server, and enter the afp address for your iPhone, in my case afp://192.168.0.111. Just use the afp:// prefix with the local IP address of your iPhone. Enter your user id (root) and password (alpine) and your iPhone or iPod appears in the sources list for your Finder windows.

Once your iPhone learns how to add itself as a disk, you’ll start wondering how you ever lived without this. To add new applications, just drop them into the Applications folder. To back-up your personal data, just copy /var/root/Library. This is just an awesome accomplishment. Thank you Core!

Hopefully soon, we’ll see not only an Installer.app version but one with a controllable launch daemon that will let you enable and disable the service as desired.

Update: If you’re installing by hand, make sure you use the version for Registered Users. It’s the one from November 10th. Don’t use the earlier one that only allows guest mode
